Summer of book love

Apart from the Three Rs, things have been rather quiet round here lately. I’ve been away—discovering two brilliantly curated bookshops in Halifax (Bookmark and Woozles) among other things. I’ve had a lot of work-related or otherwise semi-obligatory reading (including Jennifer Egan’s A Visit from the Goon Squad for my new book club), but things should be settling down a bit so I can choose books purely for pleasure. I did fit in a couple of reads on holiday, most memorably Home by Toni Morrison and Super Sad True Love Story by Gary Shteyngart.
There should be a lot of reviews over the summer, as well as forthcoming Three Rs interviews with Grace O’Connell, Andrew Cowan, Madeline Miller and Kyo Maclear. There’s an exciting line up of new titles stretching into the autumn too, with books by Zadie Smith, A.M. Homes and Laurent Binet among them. If only someone would pay me lots of money to be a full-time reader…
